- page 4- THE HERALD, Provo, Utah Wednesday,July28,1971 Obituaries DR. LARS PETERSON Peterson Funeral Saturday SPANISH FORK - Funeral services for Dr. Lars W. Peterson, 59, who died Tuesday in the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Spanish Fork Stake Center. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday prior to services. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery. Dr. Peterson was born Oct. 12, 1911, in Boulder, a son of James W. and Amanda Haws Peterson. He received his education in the Boulder, Richfield and Logan schools, after which he attended LDS Business College and the University of Utah. He later was graduated from the University of Southern California Dental School. He filled an LDS mission to Texas from 1932 to 1934. He married Lela Bixby on March 16, 1938, and they were later divorced. He then married Helen Bateman July 18, 1952, in Evanston, Wyo. Dr. Peterson practiced dentistry in Lancaster, Calif.; Provo, Panguitch and then moved to Spanish Fork in 1954 where he had since resided. Active in the LDS Church, he 'was Ward Teacher Development director in the Spanish Fork Stake at the time of his death. He served as first counselor in the High Priests Quorum, on the Adult Aaronic Stake committee, was teacher in the Sunday School and also in the super intendency. He worked for many years with Boy Scouts in the Palmyra District as a first aid and gun safety instructor and received the Boy Scout Second Mile Award recently. During World War II Dr. Peterson enlisted in the Army, and again in 1955 where he held the rank of Captain. He was a member of the Utah Historical Society and was in the process of writing a book on the history of the Boulder area. Dr. Peterson was also a member of the National Historical Society.
